Lateral thinking on Lake Constance

In April, I was invited to the sold-out Grenzdenken 2017 conference to give an account of my quest for the perfect company with pragmatic solutions gmbh. So I asked myself, ‹How do modern companies in the 21st century prepare themselves for the future?› I told the audience about my very personal journey over the past 40 years, outlining the connection between self-management, meaningful work and communicating on equal terms.

I often speak at conferences, and I’m not usually nervous. But this time was different. I was talking about the very private events in my life that ultimately convinced me that self-determination and a holistic, egalitarian approach are the key factors that modern organisations need to achieve sustainable success. My experiment paid off: as the second person to speak, I was able to lend a very personal vibe to the conference. The speaker who came after me, Luciano Marinello, (photo on owncloud) admitted to me that evening at the bar that he had put aside his prepared script so that he too could incorporate more of his own life and personal experiences. This touched me deeply.

During the break-out session that followed, there was a lot of discussion about agility in traditional industries. The takeaway from the discussion was that Management 3.0 is the best management model for preparing for Industry 4.0. Now I’m really curious to see what the new network will produce. At any rate, I’ll definitely be attending Grenzdenken again next year.
